About

All therapists work in different ways, which is why it’s important to find one that suits you. During our first session we will talk about what has bought you to seek counselling. I will outline the framework I work within and you can also ask any questions that you may have. If you are happy that counselling is for you and are happy to work with me then we will arrange for further sessions. To begin with I recommend that your sessions are weekly, how long you will want counselling for will vary. Some people might only want a few sessions and that’s enough to get them back on track. Other people may have a lot of stuff to work through so it will take a bit longer.

I believe counselling is something that everybody should have at some stage in their lives. We spend money on our physical appearance, whether that’s going to the gym or hairdressers, buying new clothes or taking a yoga class. I think this is all really important to help with our physical well being yet we don’t really pay that much attention to our emotional one.

If you imagine you’re carrying around a backpack, it contains your thoughts and feelings, beliefs and emotions. Some of these would have been put in your backpack by other people. As a child you may have been told things by your parents or caregivers. You’re so brave, you’re lazy, you’ve got such a temper, you’re so shy. Teachers may have told you you were no good at something. Ex partners may have said you were too clingy, too insecure, too independent. Whatever our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and emotions are some will be rational and some will be irrational.

During counselling you get a chance to empty that backpack out, to examine all the things that you’re carrying around. Then you can choose what serves you, what you want to keep, what you want to change and what you want to throw away. It’s not my job to tell you what to do, only to help you to explore your emotional backpack and equip you with the tools to help yourself. After-all the person who knows best what is right for you is YOU!

Counselling really gives you a chance to get to know yourself in a safe, confidential, non judgemental environment. It’s a time where you can talk about things that you may have been unable to before, a chance to let things go, a chance to move on, a chance to develop a really good relationship with yourself and a chance to take control over your own life.

Everybody deserves to be happy and we have the power to create our own beautiful futures…Sometimes we just need a little help to set us on our way.
